The World Famous – Tan Hill Inn
The Tan Hill Inn is famous for many reasons. First and foremost it is the highest pub in the British Isles at 1,732 feet above sea level. It is also situated just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is just about halfway along the Pennine way, Britain’s longest non-costal path. Aysgarth Falls
Aysgarth Falls is a three stepped waterfall which has been a tourist attraction for now over 200 years. William Wordsworth visited them at the time when Turner sketched them. In recent years they provided a stunning yet dramatic setting for a scene from the Hollywood movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
Once you have explored the natural beauty of Aysgarth Falls, there is the perfect small but delicious tearoom just across the bridge… Mill Race Teashop. A local, family run tea shop who make simply delicious food of all kind. From soup and a sandwich to afternoon tea and amazing sweet treats. Their building is also flooded with history as it is located within Yore Mill located by the Upper Falls.
Wensleydale Creamery
If you’ve never been, it’s a place to visit! Located in Hawse the Wensleydale Creamery is famous for it’s cheese making. Not only can you see the process of the cheese making but you can also dive into one of the eateries that are on site. There is a Restaurant, Calvert’s where you can enjoy a substantial yet cheese meal! Or for lighter bites you can enjoy the 1897 Coffee Shop.
Take a tour around the factory, retreat for lunch and have a look around the gift shop before exploring the historic market town of Hawse. There are some lovely antique shops, independent clothing stores and a beautiful old-fashioned sweet shop! Pear drops anyone?!
